ENJOY, OREGON | Ep. 006, 007, 008

Welcome back to our Enjoy Series. We’ve taken you to Hawaii, and California, now we are going to take you just outside our backyard to another PNW state: Oregon.

Ep. 006

Our trip started by driving South down to Portland. Our first mission was to find a place to play a round, and lucky for us, we were pointed in the direction of Wildwood Golf Course. We were met with 18 holes of jaw dropping views and uniquely designed greens, all minutes from the heart of the city. Some of the par 5’s on the back nine leave you completely forgetting that you’re a hop, skip and a jump away from a metropolis. To add to that, the place is family run and it shows. Be sure to check out this course when in town to experience great greens and even better vibes.

After our round we were in search of a great brew and some food, so we ended up at Great Notion. Great Notion is a brewery started by three friends and neighbors in Portland that offers hazy, fruit-forward IPAs and “culinary-inspired” sours & stouts. They also have one hell of a kitchen, with all sorts of mouth watering creations to pair with your brew.

The brewery holds numerous Gold and Silver medals, including accolades at World Beer Cup, GABF, Best of Craft Beer Awards, and Oregon Beer Awards, as well as the #1 IPA in America from Paste Magazine. Brace yourself to be overwhelmed by their variety of uniquely crafted selections. We thought we would give you a head start and let you in on our top five recommendations for your visit.

- Ripe (Hazy IPA)

-Blueberry Muffin (Fruited Sour)

-Double Stack (Pastry Stout)

-Ledge Bier (German Pilsner)

-Juice Jr. (Hazy IPA)

Ep. 007

Our next stop while in Oregon was to meet up with golf course designer extraordinaire, Mr. Dan Hixson. Second generation Golf Professional turned Designer, the man has seen both sides of the coin and it shows in his creations. With courses such as Bandon Crossing, Silvies Valley Ranch and Wine Valley draping his resume, it was a real honor to pick this man’s brain on course design and the pastime we all hold so dear. We were fortunate to pin Dan with all the “must ask” questions of his career, while touring the beautiful Portland Golf Club, before jumping back in the RV and heading south to enjoy a trip to his recent project, Bar Run.

Ep. 008

Welcome to Bar Run! Formulated by the creative mind of Dan Hixson, comes this must visit, modern gem of a golf course and RV Park. The 18-hole course and striking property rests as a legacy to the land, built on the site of an old sand and gravel mine. Embracing its rich Roseburg heritage, Bar Run pays homage and respect to the land’s history and topography. The reclamation project continues to preserve little bits of history throughout the course, which offers its patrons a one-of-a-kind golfing experience with engaging features that play into the game itself. From historic mining equipment in play on the course, to phenomenally complexing cement poured walls and bridges, the course does not disappoint. Plenty of fun water holes, challenging bunkers and holes for the classic long drive competition amongst your group, there is a challenge for any golfer here. Pair that with outstanding valley views that dip into orchards and you have yourself a great destination. Enjoy, we know we did!
